2017, You're Dead to Me

Monday, January 1, 2018

Looking at social media today and yesterday and seeing people praise 2017... like what? I thought the world came to a consensus that this year was the WORST. I mean let's just look at a certain man in the White House with a terrifying Twitter account? And the fact that we're not getting Peter Kraus as the Bachelor? Although I feel a little betrayed by you positive thinkers, I am glad someone enjoyed the last 365 days.

2017 threw me down a flight of stairs with a swift kick to the ribs. But I survived and came out a little bit better. For the most part I think we all did. I don't want to rehash 2017. I don't want to think about it for a long time. Six months ago if you were around you may have heard me say, "Just get me to 2018. 2018. 2018." And here I am. Beyond ready for a fresh start. 2017 gave me its fair share of fresh starts and honestly, most of them were on my terms but they felt more reactive than proactive. So 2018 is all about being proactive.

Here are my lessons & intentions for the New Year.
  • 2017 was the year of mental health. After the roller coaster of change I went through I took many months to focus on myself. 2018 is all about financial health. I've got a great adviser now to help me set life goals and make a plan and I'm really excited. After feeling a little out of control last year when I quit a job and moved out of an apartment I'm looking forward to being back in the drivers seat and not in the trunk.
  • Long ago I swore off shots. Nothing good ever came from me taking shots. Not Fireball, not Black Haus, not a lemon drop, and definitely not fucking tequila. They're still off the menu in 2018 but this year Annie will be cutting back on the drinks, too. That's the intention anyways. However, I did recently discover that taking milk thistle pills really helps prevent a hangover.
  • 2017 found me in the gym more days than the previous 27 years combined. I'm going to keep that going and continue running. I've come to understand how important exercise is not only to my stress level but also my sleeping habits. And this bitch loves to sleep.
  • 2017 was so focused on myself and slightly selfish. 2018 I'm returning the love to all those who helped me come out of last year alive. A small part of that will be using people's first names more. If you know it, use it. It's polite.
I've got so much positive energy thinking about the year to come I feel like I've convinced the universe it'll be a good one for all of us. However, we can't do anything about Mercury in retrograde so write these dates down in your calendar.

Honestly, that's all I've got. I'd be lying if I said I didn't peruse Pinterest looking for inspiring fresh start quotes. But I've got a reputation to uphold here as a bad bitch. So I'll save those to my private board and let all ya'll post them to Instagram.
